Invitation from Indonesian President

PM Modi’s visit to Indonesia comes at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Indonesia, currently chairing ASEAN, will host these vital summits.

Strengthening ASEAN-India Ties

The forthcoming ASEAN-India Summit marks a milestone as it’s the first since India and the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) elevated their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022. During this summit, the progress of India-ASEAN relations will be assessed, and a roadmap for future cooperation will be outlined.

East Asia Summit

The East Asia Summit serves as a platform for leaders from ASEAN countries and eight dialogue partners, including India, to discuss regional and global issues of significance.

ASEAN-India Economic Ministers Meeting

Prior to the visit, ASEAN-India Economic Ministers convened in Indonesia in August. Their primary focus was a timely review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA), initially signed in 2009.
