Additional Reservation for Most Backward Castes

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot made a significant announcement, revealing the state’s decision to grant a six percent reservation to the Most Backward Castes within the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). This reservation will be in addition to the existing 21 percent reservation provided to OBCs.

Survey to Identify Most Backward Castes

Gehlot highlighted that an OBC commission will conduct a survey aimed at identifying the most backward castes within the OBC category. The commission is expected to submit its findings within a specified timeframe. This initiative aims to enhance educational and employment opportunities for these communities.

Extending Benefits to EWS

Gehlot noted that the government had taken measures to extend the benefits of the 10 percent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. The condition related to immovable property has been removed, ensuring that this class can fully avail of the reservation benefits.

Exploring SC and ST Demands

Gehlot acknowledged the persistent demands for reservation based on population from various Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) organizations. The government is actively examining these demands to ensure equitable representation.
